「雑学」Is there no God in Japan in October? ? ?

 Hello everyone.

I'm Inarimaru, the owner of this blog.

Today I would like to share some trivia about Japan in a short article.

神無月 (Kannazuki)

First of all, since ancient times in Japan, it has been common to think that spirits dwell in various nature and things, and that each has its own god. Therefore, there is a legend that there were countless gods in ancient Japan. There will be a month when those gods will be gone.

Do you know how "October" was called in Japan?

In Japan, October was called "神無月 Kannazuki".

This character "神無月 Kannazuki" is

神 = God

無 = None

月 = Month

It will be a kanji meaning.

It means "one month without God". This name comes from an ancient Japanese myth.

Where have the gods gone?

Where have all the gods in Japan disappeared? why are you gone? Because I have an important meeting.

They gather at a large shrine in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, Japan, and have discussions among the gods. As a result, there will be no gods in Japan.

Conversely, in Izumo, October is called 「神在月 Kamiarizuki」. It means "one month with God". Therefore, many people visit Izumo in October, and there are events.

Wondering what the gods are talking about?

What is the content···

"It seems that they are discussing the fate and encounters of people in the next year."

In other words, it seems that they are discussing "Who should this person meet next year?" all gods.

Because of this legend, in Japan, it is called "October is the month when there are no gods."

It's actually November.

This October story seems to be the story of October in the "old Japanese calendar".

In other words, it seems that it will be November correctly in modern times. For that reason, Izumo Taisha still holds official festivals in November. I want to go.

That's it for this article.

Izumo in October and November is said to be a “power spot for marriage”.

I'd like to go there once, but I heard that it's very crowded and you can't make a hotel reservation. If I have the chance, I want to go there once before I die.

Well then, see you soon.
