March 11th is a special day for Japan today.
March 11, 2011, 14:46
A large earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 occurred off the coast of Miyagi prefecture.
I was a college student at the time. Fortunately, there was no direct damage because it was so far from the epicenter of this quake. There are only about 3 convenience stores in the city in the countryside, and most of the residents are students of the university I attend. My parents lived in a city about three hours away by car. This day was during spring break, but it was the first meeting for me to be the representative of the university club activities. After discussing future activities, I went home. After that, I had a plan with my friends, but I had time to sit in bed and read manga.
Then the apartment started to shake.
"Is it an earthquake? It's an earthquake ..."
If you live in Japan, it is natural to experience an earthquake. It's not unusual. At first I didn't think of anything. As usual, it soon subsides and becomes the usual daily life. I thought so. However, the earthquake on that day was different.
"What? The shaking is stronger than usual."
"It's been shaking for a long time. What's happening?"
I hurriedly turned on the TV. When I was watching the news, I saw a studio that was being broadcast live from Tokyo. The announcer was constantly calling attention.
"There was a big earthquake right now. Those who are watching this program should act calmly."
An announcement that is repeated over and over again. Tokyo seems to have been a big shake. By this time, no one had yet understood what had happened. Sudden shaking. Where is the epicenter? Are there any victims of the earthquake? Various media are rushing to convey incoming information immediately. There is no time to check the authenticity of the information, and the announcer on the screen is talking. At the same time as the announcer's words, I heard the sounds of the shooting staff, who usually do not make a single noise, moving around in a hurry and talking.
"This is not just a thing."
When I was watching TV with that in mind, my friends who also lived alone in the neighborhood visited me. She must have been anxious. I was also worried. Everyone was watching TV for a while. It is said that the epicenter is Miyagi prefecture. And the information became more and more scary. Increasing number of injured. How many collapsed buildings are there? Can you believe it? Every time I check the information, the bad information keeps updating in the wrong direction. And my family was worried. My parents weren't in Miyagi prefecture and lived far from the epicenter, but it was also a city closer to the epicenter than I was. I contacted several times. I made a phone call. it dose not connect.
My friends have contacted me many times, but I still can't connect. In this emergency, people all over Japan were using the telephone, and the communication line was flat. The email did not arrive well, and there was a considerable time lag between sending and replying.
Then, one of the friends who had gathered
"Why don't you go to college?"
Said. At the university we attended, there were rooms that students could use freely, including PCs and TVs. Above all, there may be students in the room who are worried other than us.
After all, it was encouraging to have a large number of people, so I decided to go to university.
When I looked at the screen to turn off the TV, I got emergency information. It was an incredible sentence.
"Tsunami warning: Estimated tsunami height is 6m."
"6m? 6m? What a tsunami of that size. It's impossible."
I can still vividly remember that thought even after 11 years. The tsunami warnings I had seen at that time were 50 cm and 60 cm. And the tsunami caused almost no damage. So I couldn't believe this information.
"Did the person who wrote this information make a mistake in the unit?"
"Is the number mistyped?"
"I don't know the size of the tsunami that will reach you, so are you telling it over?"
I thought about this. At that time.
I got into a car with my friends and headed to college. As expected, other friends were also gathering. Also teachers. I was watching TV while talking with everyone.
"I was scared."
"The shaking was longer than usual."
"I thought the tires had a flat tire because I was driving."
At this time, I was still laughing and talking with jokes.
Until I saw the video of the tsunami coming.
From TV
"It looks like the tsunami has arrived."
Was heard, and the person in the room looked at the screen. Video from a helicopter. I was stunned. The city is swallowed by the sea on the ground. She lost her word. Everyone who was there couldn't say anything. The tsunami really reached at a height of 6m.
"Is this a movie?"
"Is it a picture of a country somewhere far away?"
"Isn't it CG?"
Such thoughts overflowed in my head. I couldn't believe what happened in my country.
I didn't want to believe that the video was real. It's a lie. just kidding. Fake news. Can anyone tell me? I thought so at that time.
With that in mind, I was watching the video of being drunk in black water without words.
The March 11, 2011 I experienced was like this.
I can't forget that day.
After that, I was able to contact my parents. Both were safe. Her mother said, "It usually took four hours to get home in less than an hour." I have an older sister, but neither was injured. However, at the beginning of the earthquake, her sister was alone in her house and felt a great deal of fear. According to her mother, she was afraid to stay home and she was alone in a nearby park until her mother returned. After that, her mother contacted me that she was more afraid of the earthquake for a while. Probably mild PTSD. I'm recovering now.
Fortunately no one in my family was seriously damaged.
However, Japan suffered great damage from this earthquake.
If you look it up, you will find a lot of information.
From here onward is the actual damage data. I wrote this blog to let you know the fact that such a disaster happened in Japan.
Number of people who died
15,899
Missing person
2,526
Injured person
6,157
As for the reconstruction after that, there are many videos on YouTube etc. so please take a look.
And there are many images of the tsunami. It seems that he continues to keep this documentary because he thinks that he should not forget the disaster that caused such damage.
Lastly
This event is not an incident. It's a natural disaster that wasn't caused by anyone.
No one resents. There is no place to hit anger. There is no one to hate.
We pray for the victims of this disaster.
