Good afternoon everybody. It's Kitsuneya.
This is a short article, but it's urgent.
It seems that this information has already been reported in the UK and other media.
Japan is currently running out of electricity.
There was a similar uproar around the spring of this year, but I would like to briefly explain why Japan frequently runs out of electricity.
This is due to a combination of several factors.
(1) Unexpected temperatures occur frequently every season.
I mentioned earlier that the same thing happened this spring, but at this time the temperature was lower than usual and many homes and facilities used heating appliances, but the power plant was only preparing to generate electricity as usual. It happened because it wasn't there. The same can be said for this uproar. The temperature as of July 1, 2022 is a little over. Summer in Japan is certainly humid and hot. However, it is about the latter half of July that the temperature exceeds 35 ° C in the Kanto region. By the way, the temperature in Japan a few days ago was higher than that in India at the same time. It's unusually hot this year. The usage rate of air conditioners has jumped sharply, resulting in a power shortage.
(2) Most of the nuclear power plants are out of service.
There are about 60 nuclear power plants in Japan, but about 10 are currently in operation. The rest do not meet the safety standards, so they are all shut down or decommissioned. The reason is the nuclear accident caused by the 2011 earthquake. After that accident, the safety standard value associated with the operation of nuclear power plants has risen significantly, and power plants that have not reached that value cannot be operated at present. Therefore, in 2019, the amount of power generated by nuclear power generation will be only 6% of the total.
③ Japan wants to break away from thermal power generation! However···.
Japan advocates decarbonization as an approach to environmental problems. Therefore, the operation of thermal power plants is reduced and various power generation methods such as nuclear power, hydropower, and solar power are used, but in FY2019, 76% of domestic electricity is generated by thermal power generation. As I explained in (2), various problems occur in nuclear power generation, and I cannot find an alternative method that can generate power while supplementing thermal power. This is because nuclear power, which was the second most expensive after thermal power, has almost been destroyed. What's more, one of the thermal power plants was damaged by a large earthquake this year and is still unrecovered.
Further compelling was the soaring and shortage of fuel prices. I'm reminded that summer has just begun.
According to the contents recently announced by each Japanese electric power company, the electricity rate will increase by 2000 yen a month compared to the electricity rate of the previous year in some areas. forgive me. Even though salaries do not rise, taxes, social insurance premiums, and pension prices continue to rise, and electricity prices also rise. Stagflation is only accelerating, but is Japan really a developed country?
That's all for this article.
I'm sorry I've become bittersweet at the end.
