「ニュース」Two events took place in Japan on October 31, 2021.

 Hello everyone.

This will be another short article today. Please read it if you like.

I would like to share with you two news of October 31, 2021.

First, the House of Representatives election was held in Japan.

I will be writing about that.

Japanese elections have a low voter turnout anyway

Japanese elections are famous for their low voter turnout. Every time there is an election, the topic comes up. The turnout this time was a whopping 55.93%, meaning that 4 out of 10 people do not go to the polls and do not vote. This is the third lowest rate since World War II.

Why don't Japanese people vote in elections?

The reason is simple: "Because I don't expect anything from politics. and "Because my vote won't change anything. There are two reasons. You can see what I mean. It's not easy to change the world with your vote. But if you don't do anything, you lose the chance to change things, and you lose the right to say, "That's not right! They don't realize that if they don't do anything, they will lose the chance to change, and they will lose the right to speak up when politicians make mistakes. Isn't that right? They say they don't vote and don't care about politics.

They say they don't vote and don't care about politics, but they raise their voices when they are disadvantaged by politics. Don't you think the order is different?

But even though they know it, Japanese people are not interested in politics and elections. I used to be the same way when I was young, and I can understand why. It's different now, though

The declining birthrate and aging population are also major causes, in my opinion.

When I say this, I am often asked, "What does the declining birthrate and aging population have to do with it? I think it has a lot to do with it. In Japan, those aged 65 and over account for 28.2% of the population. In other words, one out of every 3.5 people is an elderly person, and 41.1% of the population is over 50 years old. However, in comparison, 9.6% of people in their 20s, 10.8% of people in their 30s, and 13.9% of people in their 40s all add up to 34.3% of Japan's total population, never reaching the age of 50 and above. And as you can see from the figures, the higher you look at the percentage of people aged 20 and above, the more the percentage of the population increases.

What this means is that if politicians want to get more votes, they should make policies that are meaningful to the elderly, not to the young. This is the current situation. Of course, the young people in Japan are not convinced, but they also know how powerless they are when they go to the polls.

"There are not enough young people in the country, so even if they participate in the election, there is no way they can win by majority vote.

I have heard many people say this. This is repeated every election cycle, and year after year, young people and middle-aged people have lost interest in elections and politics.

This is what I have been thinking. This is not the opinion of the Japanese government, but my own view of the current state of Japanese elections. Of course, this is not necessarily correct. However, I am sure that these are some of the problems. I believe that if young people take more interest in politics, Japan will change little by little, but it is still difficult.

Is it true that 40 years old is treated as a young person in Japan?

Incident occurred on October 31, 2021.

Next in the news is a heinous act committed by a man who was influenced by a certain movie.

On October 31, 2021, an incident occurred on the Keio Line train.

On October 31, 2021, on the Keio Line, a man suddenly slashed another passenger with a knife, then sprayed oil on him and set him on fire. The man who was stabbed with the knife was in critical condition, and 16 others were injured. The perpetrator was later arrested, but h An Ning's statement shocked the public.

The following are the details.

"I had a crush on the Joker from B*tman."

"I was failing at work, my friendships were failing, and I wanted to die.

"I wanted to kill a lot of people and get the death penalty."

"It was Halloween and I thought there would be a lot of people."

"I was frustrated that I couldn't kill anyone."

It's called "The Joker. No way, he said that he admired the Joker. The killer said that he had a lot of problems, but these may have been the reason why he saw himself and the Joker together. Still, this kind of crime cannot be tolerated. As I mentioned in my previous article about the current situation of trains in Japan, I believe that trains in Japan are safer than trains in other countries. However, incidents like this do happen from time to time. Just recently, a man was arrested for injuring more than 10 people when he slowed down a woman with a knife in another train.

It is said that Japan is a safe country, but this may be changing little by little...

Here is a blog post about trains in Japan.

「電車」What does a Japanese train look like?

That's it for this time.

I feel that Japan could be a better country, whether it is the indifference to elections in Japan or the heinous act on the train.

What did you think of these two events?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

See you soon.
