Hello everyone.
I'm Kitsuneya, who runs a blog.
Today's theme is "gun". It's something you're not familiar with when you live in Japan.
People from countries other than Japan often say, "Japan is safe because it doesn't have a gun!" Is that really the case? I will write an article including that.
Can't you buy a gun in Japan?
Basically, there is no place to change a gun when living in Japan. There is no cancer shop like in the US and Thailand, and the regulations are strict on the Internet, so you can't get it. Also, in order to have a gun, you need to apply to the country, and if you do not apply or if you do not pass the application and you have it, it will be illegal and you will be arrested.
Therefore, in general, there are many people who have never seen a gun in their daily lives. As such, Japanese people are not immune to "possessing a gun," "buying a gun," and "using a gun." We are not accustomed to those events.
Who has a gun in Japan?
Introducing people who legally have guns.
First is the "police officer". However, Japanese police officers are provided with pistols by the government, but permission is required when going out with a pistol. You cannot take it out without permission, even at work. Similarly, "Self-Defense Forces members" can handle guns, but they are not allowed to take them out except in an emergency.
Elsewhere, "hunter" is a profession where you can legally carry a gun in Japan. However, you need to qualify to get permission to own a gun, and the conditions such as acceptance criteria and where to supplement the gun are quite strict. Also, the type of gun must be selected from those designated by the country among those with the lowest possible killing power. So you can't have the kind of gun you like.
If no one has a gun, there is no gun crime! Do you think
That's not the case. The number of guns fired in 2020 will be 17 nationwide. Of these, 14 are related to the Japanese Mafia. The number of dead and injured in 17 cases was 4 dead and 5 injured. (Among them, the Mafia officials are dead: 1 and injured: 5).
It has become. No matter how much Japan has gun crime, it is not zero. Furthermore, there is scary data for Japanese people, which is the number of gun seizures. I mentioned earlier that there were 17 shootings, but in 2022 the police seized 355 pistols nationwide. Moreover, of these, only 54 pistols related to the Mafia are available. In other words, the remaining 301 guns were owned by the general public. Are you too scared?
There are quite a few people in Japan who have hidden guns just because they haven't developed into an incident. In 2019, more 401 guns have been found. It's a little uneasy to know these facts.
What if I tell the police about the gun?
Even Japanese people may not know much about the information from here onward.
If you live in Japan and browse information about illegal possession or sale of guns, I think many people will do nothing. However, in fact, you may get a thank you if you call the dedicated dial of the Japanese National Police Agency. This is officially announced by the National Police Agency, "If you can arrest the criminal or seize the pistol by providing information, you will get a reward commensurate with the result." However, there are some things to be aware of in this case. That is, "If the information provider is anonymous, it will be invalid." In other words, when making a report, the caller must also give his real name to the National Police Agency. Well, I don't think there's anything wrong if you're not doing bad things. Certainly, if you are notified anonymously, you don't know who to thank. That's right.
By the way, it seems that the market price is about 100,000 yen if one pistol can be seized. It's just an example, so I don't know if it's true.
If you are interested, please check it out. I know the phone number to call, but I don't know if I can put it on my blog, so I won't write it this time.
Well, this is the end of this blog.
Compared to other countries, Japan has fewer crimes using guns.
However, it is not absolutely absent, and there are occasional violent incidents using guns.
I'm thinking about the case in Japan where guns were used, but it's difficult to put together, so I'll publish it if possible.
see you next time!
