「クリスマス」Introducing Christmas in Japan.

 Hello everyone.

Today I will write "How to spend Christmas in Japan".

How do you spend Christmas in your country? If you think it is different from how you spend your time in Japan, please leave a comment.

I think it will be a short article as usual, but please read it.

Christmas in Japan is spent with lovers, not with family.

In Japan, it is common to recognize that Christmas is an event to spend with a lover. I spend time with my family until I was a kid, and since I became a high school student, I have more people with my lover than my family. Lover is prioritized over family and friends. Therefore, it is also a time when people who do not have a lover have a narrow shoulder. The streets of the Christmas season are full of couples! I felt a little sad when I was single! !!

Therefore, I think that Japan has the value that spending Christmas together is a special person for me. Unless you are intimate, you will often be refused even if you invite them to a date or a meal on Christmas.

Eve on the 24th is more important than the day of Christmas.

The reason for this is not clear, but it is said to be the influence of the songs of the 1980s. Many of the songs at that time said, "It's romantic to spend time with your lover on Christmas Eve," and it is thought that the influence of those who were influenced by it still remains. As a result, the phenomenon that Christmas Eve is more exciting than on Christmas day is occurring in Japan.

KFC sells tremendously!

Kentucky fried chicken sells like no other. If you visit KFC on the day, it will sell enough to refuse your order. Turkeys are not common in Japan and are not available at supermarkets. I have never seen turkeys for sale in supermarkets. Instead of hard-to-find turkey, roasted chicken and fried chicken are eaten. It is said that this is because KFC's advertisement "Christmas in Japan = chicken" was a great hit and spread.

By the way, as for how much KFC can be sold, it seems that it made sales of 6.9 billion yen in one week from December 19th to 25th, 2020. That's over 6.9 billion in a week ...

Japanese people eat too much chicken for Christmas ...

Christmas cake is shortcake

As you can see in the picture, shortcake is mainly cream and strawberries, which is the most common cake to eat at Christmas. It seems that chocolate cakes are also popular these days. Therefore, from around October, strawberry imports will be active in Japan.

Place the present at the bedside.

Christmas is a gift, isn't it? In Japan, it is common to "put a present on the bedside where a child is sleeping" from midnight on the 24th to dawn on the 25th. When I was a kid, I first checked the bedside on the morning of the 25th. And since the number of presents is "one by one", children desperately choose what they want most from what they want now. It is common to ask Santa Claus to do that and put it at the bedside on Christmas morning. If a child wants an expensive gift, Santa Claus is also hard!

as a side note…

It is said that the Christmas event was established in Japan around 1900. It was transmitted earlier, but it seems that it did not take root in the previous era due to religious persecution. The current form of Christmas is said to have been made around 1947, and in 1950 the Japanese cake shop "Fujiya" spread the idea of eating cakes at Christmas, and department stores give presents to children and lovers. It is said that the current Christmas in Japan has been completed.

That's all for this article.
