「忍者」Explain the ninja!

 Hello! everyone!

Today I will write about the "忍者:ninja" that everyone loves.

Did the ninjas that appear in manga, movies, and dramas really exist?

I will explain what a "ninja" was like!

Note: This article is not the answer to all, as many historical sources have various theories. There are various considerations and claims, so if you are interested, please check it out for yourself.

When did the ninja start?

The oldest historic source appears around the 13th century as a villain who was opposed to government policy at the time. However, since there are descriptions that have existed for a long time, the detailed origin is unknown. At that time, it was not called a "ninja" and there were various ways to call it. It is said that the term "ninja" became established around 1955. It is said that Ieyasu Tokugawa hired "Ninja" around 1590 when he started to stand on the government side. There are records of appearances on various battlefields by then, but at this time it is thought that it was like a mercenary in modern times. Around the 17th century, "Ninjutsu", a book that describes ninjutsu, training, and attitudes as a ninja, began to be written. Most of the content is about so-called survival technology such as intelligence technology, pharmacy, astronomical science, diet, memory, and gunpowder.

By the way, about the female ninja "くノ一:Kunoichi", it seems that it actually existed. One of the most famous is the record of espionage activities while walking in various towns while calling himself a shrine official named "歩き巫女:Walking Priestess" who served the military commander Takeda Shingen. However, there is no material about women dressed as ninjas, and unlike male ninjas, they have never been fighting, assassinating, or sneaking into buildings with "women in ninja costumes", and they are creative. Seems to be.

What is a ninja mission?

There are quite a lot of materials left as ninja activities, so I will introduce some of them.

・ Arson to important facilities in the enemy country

・ Invasion of enemy countries and information gathering

・ Destruction of important facilities

・ Assassination

・ Ambush

And so on, he was mainly active in avoiding direct combat.

The reason is said to be that the most important task was to "bring back the enemy's situation and information to the employer", and for that purpose it was necessary to "return alive". Records before the 13th century indicate that he was active as a guerrilla warfare unit, but there seems to be no definitive material.

About Iga and Koga.

I'll shorten this a lot. The reason is long! It's too long! !! Besides, there are too many creations with Iga and Koka motifs, so I don't know what is the fact and what is the fake!

However, it is a fact that Iga and Koga existed as "Ninja Village". Both are located in the mountains near Kyoto, and the surrounding area was a natural fortress, so it is believed that this place was established as a village of ninjas.

The difference between Iga and Koga is that Koga had only one lord and was engaged in activities for the lord he served. On the other hand, Iga decided that the lord did not exist and was hired for money and had no further relationship with the employer. Therefore, if there were two people who paid money and they were hostile, ninjas were dispatched to both of them. Even if Iga is a friend, there is a record that he was in conflict and killed each other depending on the situation of his employer.

In addition, Koka seems to have been good at collecting information, crafting activities, and handling medicine. Iga is good at fighting and has the characteristic of being well trained. In addition, Iga has Kunoichi's materials, but Koka does not. The biggest difference is that the Iga ninjas disappeared with the times, but the Koka ninjas did not completely disappear because they used their knowledge of the medicine to sell medicines as a side business. Even after the ninja disappeared, a pharmaceutical company was established by its descendants, and the company remains in Japan today.

There are many other ninja factions, but I'll omit them because they're too long.

sorry.

About ninjutsu.

"Ninjutsu" actually existed ... It's not like the magic that appears in a certain ninja manga that everyone imagines.

General technology that uses fire and smoke ⇒ 火遁の術:fire style

Dive in the water and make a noise with the water ⇒ 水遁の術:water style

Hitting sand or rocks against the opponent ⇒ 土遁の術:earth style

It's a fairly realistic technology. I'm sorry for those who dreamed. No fire comes out of nothing, no water catches enemies, no lightning strikes from your body ...

However, it is a martial art in close combat, what is now called martial arts.

And many of the weapons "忍具:Ningu" used by ninjas actually existed, and there are records that they were actually used. In Japan, I was sometimes surprised to see a person sticking in a frying pan when he was just throwing it on a TV program, "What if I actually use a Shuriken?".It was amazing power.

This article is up to this point, but how was it?

Writing at once will be really long, so I will write it again when I have the next opportunity.

I wanted to introduce more famous real ninjas and tools, but I don't know how many pages it will be.

I also want to write about "侍:

samurai" and "芸者:geisha" next time.

It seems interesting even if the theme is "遊郭:Yukaku".

I will write an old story about Japan again.

If you are interested, please read it again.

See you soon!
