First, I will answer the basics of how marijuana is handled in Japan in a question-and-answer format.

This information is as of November 1, 2021. Note that there is a possibility that the law will change in Japan in the future.

Can I bring marijuana to Japan?

No, you cannot. If you bring marijuana into Japan, you will be imprisoned for up to seven years and fined. Also, if you give or sell marijuana to someone in Japan, it will be considered malicious and you will most likely be charged with the most serious crime.

Are there any places where I can buy marijuana?

There is no place in Japan where you can buy marijuana.

Even if there is, it is an illegal store.

In Japan, it is against the law to possess marijuana. The maximum penalty is five years in prison. Cultivation is also illegal.

Are there any stores where marijuana is legal to use?

No, there are not. In the Netherlands, you can smoke it in coffee shops. However, there are no such places in Japan.

Can I smoke at home or in a hotel?

No. You can be arrested just for keeping it at home or in a hotel, even if you do not use it outside.

The reason why I decided to write about this subject in my blog is because I remembered that a few years ago, I was walking along the street and a foreigner spoke to me.

In the city where I live, there is an area where bars, pubs, and taverns are clustered. That day, my friends and I were having a drink at one of them. As we started to move on to the next bar, I noticed a person walking back and forth in the alleyway. I remember thinking, "What is that person doing at 1 a.m.?" I remember thinking to myself. When we got to the next store, I noticed that a few people hadn't arrived yet, including a woman, so I got worried and went to pick her up. So I went to pick her up. "He's still here. That's a little scary." I thought to myself, "He's still there. When he spoke to me, I realized that he was a foreigner. He asked me a question in a few words of Japanese.

"Where can I smoke marijuana in this town?"

I said, "There are no places in Japan where you can smoke. I replied, "There is no place in Japan where you can smoke. It was the first time in my 30 years of life that I had been asked such a question, and it was a shocking experience. In Japan, we are taught that marijuana is a bad thing, and I grew up with strict instructions from my parents not to use it. Of course, I have never used marijuana, and I have never seen it. I do smoke, though.

In my opinion.

"I don't believe that using marijuana is absolutely evil. If you use it in a country or region where it is legal, you are free to do as you please."

But in Japan, it is illegal and you should not do it.

However, it is illegal in Japan, so you should not do it.

"Marijuana isn't bad! It's better than smoking!" But it's the law in Japan. Please be patient while you are in Japan.

So, that's it for this time.
